I'm posting on behalf of a lovely lady who is a member of our Bolton Group committee. She had her first infusion of Rituximab last week and now has what she describes as "shaky" legs. Has anyone else had this and do you think it may be a cause for concern? Could it be a side effect? I'd be so grateful for any advice you may have.

Hi

I have not had this side effect - I had my 1st Ritux 4.10.11 and 2nd 18.10.11. I have not felt any benefit yet - just a worstening of symptoms since my last inflix wore off and before the ritux begins to work - hopefully. Others have started theirs recently too so they may be able to give input?

Hi Jean - I had my first infusion yesterday and have just had a look back at the folder of info I got. It does state that neurological problems like difficulty walking should be reported asap - not sure if this is more extreme though than the sensation this lady described to you. I would say, if in doubt, ring the ward where she had the infusion or ring the rheumy nurse.

I'm still very wobbly and dizzy but I wouldn't say it is trouble walking. Definitely trouble thinking though - I woke in the night and couldn't get to sleep again, so came down to make a drink and put some washing on. The cat decided it was early breakfast and was demanding food so I put some in her bowl then returned to the washer whilst poor Betty continued to wail loudly. When I looked, I'd put a Persil pouch in her bowl and was just about to scoop Iams into the washing machine ...

Hoping the cotton wool head isn't for long. Hope your friend soon feels better and can get some advice to reassure her. Take care, xx Ailsa

Hi Jean

The advice I had was to report ANY neurological problems immediately. It could be related to the Rituximab or perhaps the steroid infusion given prior to it. Whichever, it does need checking out especially as the infusion was last week!
